"who is Christ the Lord"

"I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; A star shall come forth from Jacob, A scepter shall rise from Israel, …”

(Numbers 24:17) (1600 b.c.)

“for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

(Luke 2:11) (4 b.c.)

One Solitary Life

"One Solitary Life"
Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself...
While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress.
I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.

A Word from the November Men's Meeting

One of the brothers received this word at the CCF Men’s Meeting November 18, 2008 and asked it be shared via the blog.

"While we were in prayer I received a sense of the Lord responding to some requests made to him that night. I believe the Lord was giving a request to us, and it went like this.

The Lord, I hear you confessing that I am Lord and in control. But you're not being honest with me, and you are not being honest with yourselves. You are giving me these confessions, but fear is rising in you steadily. You need to hand me this fear, and do it preferably now as you read this. This fear is rising because you don’t know what will happen after this year. You need to be honest with me now because you don’t know what will happen the day after you read this."

Christmas 2008 - A Sign

As I have mentioned before, Charles Simpson continues to impress me and disciple me. He is one "who waits upon the Lord, and mounts up with wings as eagles" seeing into the Spirit, and even more so as he advances in age (Isaiah 40:31). Please take a moment to read his December newsletter about signs.
Have a Blessed and Peaceful Christmas season. -=db=-

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."
(Isaiah 7:14)

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this."

The Heavenly Man - You'll want to read

The Heavenly Man

The Remarkable True Story of Chinese Brother Yun

with Paul Hattaway

Monarch Books, Mill Hill, London & Grand Rapids, Michigan 2002

Where would I start? A book of 350 pages that would normally take me a month to read, if I attempted it at all, I’ve just read in about twenty-four hours – from front to cover. Although it reads like a spy thriller, it’s very simple and childlike in the way it tells it’s story, really unlike anything I’ve ever read. I would consider it like a small satchel of dynamite - no, more like an exceeding small, nuclear literary bomb for all the explosive information, truth, and life it contains!

I just finished reading it in the middle of the night in Japan. My mind is still swirling with what I’ve seen and thought, and heard and read. I don’t want the most precious things I've read to be blown away by thoughts or activity before my mind stores them in my heart for beauty, safe keeping, and later use.

I’ve always wondered about the underground church in China, which I believe is the largest and most powerful in the world. Now through the eyes of one of its leaders and founders, his wife, and friends – I feel like I’ve had a college course on that underground church and today's world spiritual affairs. More so, I feel like I know this hero and heroine, who would disdain my calling them that. I consider them valuable friends and counselors – friends who have reawakened me to a way of life and joy.

I found myself crying tears of joy and sadness for all people and China as I read. I found myself crying for myself, and some spiritual and emotional healing I need; but haven’t understood or identified. I felt a wave of the Spirit’s presence bring healing to these mysterious hurts and injuries. I know the healing will show itself soon in a fuller life and better relationships. I can’t remember the last time I wept, or appreciated Jesus more.

By now, you know whether the Spirit is impressing you to read this epic journey with kingdom and worldly insights or not? Enjoy! -=db=- (Thanks Brad!)

Early voting begins Today!

Below are partial remarks about the upcoming election from Dr. James Dobson, a man we all respect and admire for his lifetime of ministry and action in support of “the family” in our USA. The links at the bottom are provided with his full remarks, for sharing, emailing and for printing. -=db=-

“Dear Friends,

Can you feel the tension in the air? The nation—and indeed, the world—is holding its collective breath as the final days of the presidential campaign wind down …. By this time next month, we’ll know whether Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama will be inaugurated in January as the 44th President of the United States.

Let’s start with the need to elect a pro-family, pro-life President. The importance of this objective cannot be overstated. Between 2009 and 2012, there will likely be two or more opportunities for the President to nominate new justices to the Supreme Court. Some court watchers say there could be as many as four resignations. That alone should give us serious pause as we consider for whom to cast our votes. In the months ahead, the Supreme Court will likely hand down rulings that will impact America for generations to come. We need a President who will nominate conservative, strict-constructionist judges to the Court. If that doesn’t happen, the highest court in the land could become stacked—even more than it already is—with justices who will endeavor to legislate from the bench and impose a liberal agenda on the nation. It will likely affect the definition of marriage, religious freedom, and the protection (or lack thereof) of life in the womb. It’s probably obvious which of the two major party candidates’ views are most palatable to those of us who embrace a pro-life, pro-family worldview. While I will not endorse either candidate this year, I can say that I am now supportive of Senator John McCain and his bid for the presidency. My concern is for the biblical and moral values that I and millions of Americans hold dear. I will gladly support politicians of any stripe who are willing to defend the sanctity of human life, support the institution of traditional marriage, protect the country from terrorism and advance the cause of religious liberty. While certainly not perfect, the 2008 Republican platform comes closest to embracing those ideals by a wide margin.

Finally, I am deeply concerned about the tax and spend policies Senator Obama will impose on the American people if he is elected, especially in light of the current financial crisis. This is not the time to be taking money out of the economy, yet, he has proposed enormous new federal programs and entitlements that will cost multiple billions of dollars.

…. Arkansas voters will decide whether to prevent couples living together out of wedlock— heterosexual or homosexual—from adopting children or serving as foster parents. …. I implore you to spend the few days remaining before the election researching the various amendments, ballot measures, and local and national candidates. Then, exercise your responsibility before God to vote on or before Nov 4. Regardless of your political views, I want to urge Christians everywhere to be in prayer about this election. Spend time with the Lord, asking Him to guide and direct those privileged to cast a ballot. If you are able, I would also encourage you to fast and pray immediately before the election. After all, it was the Reverend Billy Graham who once said that “To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.” Amen, Dr. Graham.

This election is about the future of the nation, but it will also go a long way toward determining the culture your children and grandchildren will come to know. I know you will vote with your children and your children’s children in mind. That certainly puts the election in a different light, doesn’t it?

You know my heart on these issues, and I hope you understand that I am less concerned with politicians and political parties than I am with the timeless biblical principles that those parties have the power to either strengthen or damage. No candidate is perfect, whether in this election or any other. Please don’t make your decisions lightly. There is simply too much at stake. May God grant each of us wisdom as Nov. 4 approaches.

Sincerely,

James C. Dobson, Ph.D.

Founder and Chairman”

Mission Statement 2008-2009

As men and followers of Jesus Christ our mission is to Guard what has been entrusted to us. I Tim 6:20 Our example is the Lord Jesus when He stated in John 17:12 that He guarded them that had been given to Him and that not one of them perished. Therefore, we believe one of the primary roles of a mature man of God is to guard and protect those that have been given to him; be it wife, family, co-workers, or friends. Our goal is to encourage and instruct on how to be that mature man, so that we might each become a well honed sword, useful in the hand of the Lord. We realize we are inadequate in ourselves to accomplish this and seek to overcome our weakness by committing to personally seek the Lord and thereby experiencing the consequent empowerment of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. 2 Tim 1:14 We also affirm the need and acknowledge the strength gained by consistent fellowship and submitting in accountability to one another. With Christ’s help we are determined to do all these things and to fulfill our destinies as men. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm at CCF. Come join us in our pursuit of God! -=Brian Fields=-

Inside your dish first...spend time with God

"The beginning of all reform must be in yourselves. However restricted your circumstances, however little you may be able to remedy financial affairs, you can always turn to yourselves, and seeing something not in order there, seek to right that.
As all reform is from within out, you will always find the outward has improved too. To do this is to release the imprisoned God-Power within you.
That power, once operative, will immediately perform miracles. Then indeed shall your mourning be turned into Joy." God Calling, Edited by A.J. Russell October 16

"... First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean." Jesus (Matthew 23:26 NIV)

Regain the Prophetic Call

Regain the Prophetic Call by Charles Simpson, October, 2008

This article has unusual clarity (usual for prophets, I guess!) and brings unusually clear focus to following Christ in our day and moment. It resonates with Bob Sorge’s book on Job, and Greg McNutt’s recent word to the CCF men.

I share these few paragraphs here, and I’ve ordered newsletters for each one of you who asks me.

“In August, I made a three-week trip through the Midwest all the way to Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, and many states in between them and Alabama. Driving and fellowshipping gave me a fresh perspective. I was able to sit with and talk with a very diverse group of people – some wealthy, some intellectual, and some seemingly at the very bottom of society. Some were pastors, some were business people, and some were struggling with various desperate needs.

I also read several books: Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom; Always by My Side by Jim Nantz; Letters from Dad by Greg Vaughn; In His Steps by Charles Sheldon; and Prophetic Untimeliness by Os Guinness. In addition, I have read and reread Isaiah 58-61, Luke 4, and the Book of James. I am more convinced than ever that Armenians need to read the book of Romans and Calvinists need to read the book of James.

I wish that I could give a synopsis of each book and my travel experience, but I cannot do that here. However, I came away with two deep desires’ first, to minister to those who understand that they need help – the spiritually hungry. Second, to pass on Truth to the next generation. Here are some conclusions that I want to honestly share with you:

  • I am not where I want to be spiritually; I must regain focus.
  • I cannot do everything that I want to do, but I can do something if I can focus.
  • I cannot ignore the needs that Jesus addressed and still be a follower of Him.
  • Doing religion as usual is futile.
  • If the world is to glorify God, we must go “out there” (see Matthew 5:13-16).
  • The world is in significant transition; it is time for serious prayer and action.
  • If I am to be prophetic, I must see and address the future correctly and act accordingly. I need the anointing of His Spirit to do that.
  • I must be willing to bear the pain of seeing what I cannot personally change.

These are personal issues that continue to be at work, right now, in me.”

These are personal issues that continue to be at work, right now, in me. How about you?

Move Forward

Greg McNutt, our CCF brother and a missionary to Brazil for many years now, spoke at our September Men’s Meeting a couple weeks ago. He began with a few strong prophetic words and thoughts I want to share with you here and now.

“You can’t stop now!” or “Don’t stop now.” [In your spiritual journey or life walk with God.] “Keep your feet moving.” “Keep yourself free of excess baggage.” This is not a time to build your dream house!” “Haven’t you had enough of slavery?” [To sin, sinful habits, the world, Egypt – my thoughts, but his inference.] These are special times.

His text was Exodus 14:14-16. It’s the story of Moses parting the Red Sea, the people journeying to safety and deliverance, and the Lord destroying their enemies. Please read it! The whole chapter, and meditate on it. (1) The people cry out to Moses about their fears and the helpless situation. Moses tells them to “be still and watch” the actions and deliverance of their God. (2) Moses cries out to God, evidenced by God’s speaking to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me?” (3) Then God tells Moses to “tell the people to move forward.” Don’t stop now! Move toward the Red Sea in spite of your fears and hopelessness. [Note what God does! How He stands between them and their enemies.] (4) Then He tells Moses to do as simple, easy thing. “Stand, and stretch your rod toward the sea.” Just be sensitive to My voice, obey, and do the simple things I direct, seeing what power and authority I’ve invested and trusted to the servant of the Lord. The rest is history.

It’s also the future. It’s also now – our times, our lives, where we live. Let His Word, and this word dwell richly in you.

He continued telling about an hours worth of “sound bite” examples from movies, stories, and peoples lives of having vision, faith in God, and living life to the maximum. “Sea Biscuit” was one such example. Several broken lives and dreams are reenergized by circumstances, hope, and the courage to take some risks and walk it out. Healing, relationships, and success come through the journey and lives well lived.

Greg finished talking about passion for Jesus. “Passion for Jesus fuels all the above”. It’s the gasoline, the fuel, the energy – our motivation and power, for living such a life and having such a rewarding journey. A journey of relationships with others, and the King.

Take some time! Get some habits! To nurture this relationship with Jesus. He’s worthy. You and yours will be blessed – now and in eternity. -=db=-

Gas Prices Too High for You?

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear…But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:25,33)

Seeking God’s Kingdom

Our Lord makes an audacious claim....

Also consider this...

He who gives to the poor will lack nothing,
but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses. Proverbs 28:27

Quote by Noah Webster

"When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, "just men who will rule in the fear of God." The preservation of [our] government depends on the faithful discharge of this Duty; if the citizens neglect their Duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the Laws; the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizen will be violated or disregarded. If [our] government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the Divine Commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the Laws."

Monday, August 25, 2008

"Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."

With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."

(Acts 2:40)

This was a main point in Stan’s message Sunday. His answer to “how” we do this was insightful, simple, and profound. It’s found in the same text (Acts 2:36-47).

According to Dr. Stan, it’s (1) Faith & (2) Genuine Fellowship.

He said, among many other great things, “If ‘together’ isn’t a part of your Christian life style – you’re missing something!” Read the text and note how many times ‘together’ is used. Meditate on it and ask the Spirit to instruct you if there’s something there for you.

“The promise [Forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit] is for you and for your children.” Acts 2:39

Belize 2009

The date is set for the CCF Men's Mission to Belize 2009! January 25 to February 2. Please note that on your calendar; start praying; and start saving. Also get that passport application sent in! The time will be here before you know it. I feel like there will be much to do, much fellowship to be had, and much fun to enjoy with each other on the journey!

Your leaders have started planning!

The photo is of a recreational outing enjoyed with the Kirklands and Russells who just returned from a short term mission to help the Gaithers get settled in, and get the spiritual lay of the land. They were able to fly to an outer island for some swimming and snorkeling in the pristine blue waters of Belize's coast. If you get the chance, ask these folks about their trip.

More later on this, possibly shared at the next men's meeting this Tuesday night. See you there!

Blessings, Dwayne

NO TIRED WORK

I've just been on a weeks vacation and spiritual retreat, three days of which was spent in Morocco. On the last leg home this morning in DFW, I arose early to read this in God Calling, one of my devotional books. It's so apropos. Enjoy!

"REST. It is wrong to force work. Rest until Life, Eternal Life, flowing through your veins and hearts and minds, bids you bestir yourselves, and work, glad work, will follow.
Tired work never tells.

Rest. Remember I am your Physician, Healer of mind and body.

Look to Me for cure, for rest, for Peace."

“Dwell Apart”

“Dwell Apart” August 6th God Calling, A.J. Russell

"Rest more with Me. If I, the Son of God, needed those times of quiet communion with My Father, away, alone, from noise, from activity – then surely you need them too.

Refilling with the Spirit is a need. That dwelling apart, that shutting yourself away in the very secret place of your being – away alone with Me.

From these times you come forth in Power to bless and heal."

This is from a little devotional book given me by my son a couple years ago. That small, humble book has helped me a lot in stilling my soul and hearing from God. It also has been an encouragement for times of quiet and solitude in a noisy culture that seems much of time hectic and out of control.

I have times like that built into my work schedule, when I’m resting in the middle of a trip. But I have to choose to use it so. I realize most of you don’t have that kind of opportunity, but I urge you to “do what it takes” to get alone with God for quiet times of listening, meditation, reading, praying.

The author of “The Spirit of the Disciplines” said he believed “solitude was the most important of the disciplines, and the hinge of all the others.” He also said, “If Jesus practiced this and Paul practiced it, why should we think we needn’t practice it?” This is a powerful insight and true!

Pastor Craig has been quietly leading in this, and more of us are aspiring to it and practicing it. Please join us! Do it for your own good and the pleasure of the King. -=db=-

Get There! Spend time with God.

Spend time with God!

We think we're so special somehow, because of our times and affluence.

We are special, and at the same time I fear we're " wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked," just as Jesus described the Laodicean church in Rev 3:13-19.

I hear the Lord saying to me, "You've got to spend time with me. In the mornings would be best. You need to be under the waterfall of my presence; then go from there refreshed, washed, and well to face the day ahead - sensitive to the presence and leading of my Spirit." We need to make it a habit! It's our part, of living a "Spirit led life."

I went to hear Dr./General/Pastor H.D. McCarty speak at the Muldrow High School last night, where the churches and pastors of the city are hosting a unity meeting! One of many tidbits of spiritual food I came away with was this. "Yes every Christian needs to rise early to spend time with the Lord. We think so that we can enjoy a Spirit led productive day. That's true. But if you do, you've already experienced the most powerful and important activity of the day!" Amen.
Our pastor is away spending 2 1/2 days with God as I type. Thank God for him and his leadership in this important area.

Happy reading, praying, meditating, and habit building. -=db=-

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." (Mark 1:35 NIV)

Dan Davis on Relationship

Dan Davis, long time friend of Pastor Craig and CCF spoke July 13th. I want to repeat here just a couple things he said, and encourage you to listen to his words and heart via CD or the web, again or for the first time.
He talked about what the Lord was doing in Austin, TX where he and Joann live. How does he know the Lord is doing something redemptive in his city? Because so many church leaders are coming together in unity.
He talked about what that looked like. Small groups where people walk deeply with each other, and meet in each other's homes. "People are looking for a safe place for relationships."
Neither your church, nor any institution is holding you back. You have the Spirit of God, the sovereign Lord, in you. You can do His bidding in His power. If you're willing and wanting to do so.
He shared so many good things, but I'll close with this one, and you can hear his message via the web or CD. Someone asked Lesslie Newbigin, the British Theologian, if he was an optimist or a pessimist? He replied, "I believe that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead."
Good answer! Good realization in which to live your life! Go in His power. Go with God. To your family, to your friends, into the world.
Blessings,
Dwayne

Pray for Yourselves

"Wake up the mighty men!" That was the instruction Bobby heard from the Lord several months ago and not much has changed since we heard that. Dwayne and I were talking the other day wondering what we can do to fulfill our role in that process. What came was that when the men see Jesus in us, they will awaken. You may sense additional ways but one that is burning in my heart is that we pray Eph. 1:17-20. Pray it first for yourself, then pray it for each of your brothers. I believe that if we do this consistently and diligently we will begin to see Him, and when we see Him we will be like Him.
I am so grateful to be joined with you men. Men and brothers that have a sincere and passionate desire to know and please our Father of Glory. In Him... Brian

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Eph 1:17-20

I pray Father that you would give me your Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of your Son Jesus: that the eyes of my understanding may be opened; that I may know what is the hope of your calling for my life, and what is the glorious wealth of the inheritance laid up for me because I am your son, and that through your mighty power working in me that I might believe in the exceeding greatness of your power towards me, in the same way that it was demonstrated in Christ Jesus when you raised Him from the dead, and set Him at your right hand in heaven.

BROKENNESS

Joel 2:12 The LORD said: It isn't too late. You can still return to me with all your heart. Start crying and mourning! Go without eating.
Joel 2:13 Don't rip your clothes to show your sorrow. Instead, turn back to me with broken hearts. I am merciful, kind, and caring. I don't easily lose my temper, and I don't like to punish.

Here's to the Crown

Here’s to the Crown

There is a biblical and life principle that can be simply stated as, “Cross before Crown.” This principle is played out everywhere from education, athletics, business, and most especially in our accomplishing God’s will. We must endure hardship to get there. And usually, the greater the goal, the tougher the test. But keeping the goal in mind enables us to get through the test.

There are two recent events in our family which have reinforced this principle in my mind: recently our granddaughter completed her high school education with honors and received a large college scholarship. Also recently, our youngest son baptized a “Hell’s Angel” who accepted Christ. Both were the crowning results of endurance. What a joy to see!

The book of Hebrews focuses on endurance. It says of Abraham, “and so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise” (see Hebrews 6:15). It says of Jesus, “Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame, and has set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls” (see Hebrews 12:2-3).

This letter is not primarily about Jesus’ Cross, though we are told to consider it as we face our own. Looking at His Cross helps us to endure ours. He endured His for the joy of pleasing the Father and providing salvation for us. He kept that goal before him, and we must continually consider the possibility that is set before us.

CCF Men's Buffalo Canoe Trip 2008

This may seem a little disorienting to you, but from the bottom of the 209' Hemmed-in-Hollow Falls, this is how it looks from many vantage points.

Sixteen men joined us this year for our annual float trip down the Buffalo River. Most of us arrived at Pinecrest Camp on Friday afternoon and evening. We were surprised and delighted with the new accommodations, Pinecrest's new Conference Center compete with semi private rooms, private bathrooms, and fairly comfortable beds. Melissa, the camp cook, did a fantastic job feeding the crew baked chicken and all the fixin's. Alan and Austin Brents built an awesome campfire for the evening. We had a great time sharing around the firelight what the Lord was doing in our lives, some great books we had read recently and even talked a little about Creationism and Intelligent Design. Seems like we always have some good discussions about God's wonderful creation when we are out in it!

We had two Christian brothers, Steven & Dave, down from Kansas City this year. They were a great addition to the group and shared quite a bit around the campfire. Dennis Padilla also had his friend Louis join us from Fort Smith. We all slept well and ate another great breakfast at Pinecrest. We then hit the river at Steel Creek and floated to Kyle's Landing which is our normal take out spot. This is a very nice day’s float. The river was at a very floatable level with a "bluebird sky" day, and there were a lot of people putting in at Steel Creek. Every canoe was booked by the 4 or 5 authorized canoe rental companies and it’s estimated over 400 canoes put in at Steel Creek that day. That made it little crowded at first, but it spread out as we went down river and people stopped for lunch along the gravel bars. We stopped at Hemmed in Hollow and ate lunch. A bunch of us went up to the water fall. From there it is a fairly short float on down to Kyle's where we loaded up and drove to Clarksville for the traditional Wendy's feast.

God blessed us with an absolutely wonderful time. We thank Him for it.

Bill (Stuckey)

"O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? "

White Gloves

White Gloves!
“Husbands love your wives. I mean it!” This was a strong word the men’s leaders felt they heard at our planning retreat at the first of the year.
In that vain, let me make a suggestion, if I may. Take your wife to lunch at the White Gloves restaurant and tea room. This is the new establishment opened and operated by our own Nancy Fox. It’s located across Rogers Ave from Rainwater's on the east end near Barling, in the old Coffee Beanery.
They have great lunch specials for about $6. I tried some hot tea with my lunch and loved it. Ask for it by name if you want to shock your wife. It’s “Constant Comment.” The decor is charming and you’ll dine to Canon in D or similar beautiful music.
She’ll love it! And she’ll love you for thinking about it and suggesting it. Surprise her with this treat one day soon!
Your brother in trying for better marriages,
Dwayne

He Leads ... by Still Waters

Greetings All,

I’ve been a quiet time in my life spiritually. There is lots of activity going on of course, as usual. Too much! But I’m aware that God is calling me aside, to a quieter, different walk. It’s a lifestyle of habits where there is actually time spent with Him. Once I’m on and living near this path, established by will and habits, I believe it’s possible and probable that I’ll hear more often and clearly from the Holy Spirit. Thus I’ll be more focused and effective in serving others and investing in eternal things (people), and serving the King. I think you spell this “led by the Spirit.” There’s also the value of better “knowing” God. Interesting concept? Why am I just now sensing that this is possible, doable and a matter of “obedience” for me?

I’m not sure? But I’m going to call it “grace.” And after hearing it, I suppose the next most important thing is “doing it.”

So feel free to watch and ask how it’s going. Or you could even join me on this journey?

I don’t know if I’ll be blogging more or less? Guess that will depend on what I hear?

Love to you all. A brother in Christ,

Dwayne

A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. (Psalms 23:1-3)

…because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (Romans 8:14)

The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. (John 21:17)

I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart. (Jeremiah 24:7)

He says, "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be honored among the nations. I will be honored in the earth." (Psalms 46:10)

Is God Safe

Greetings Men,
I haven’t written in a while, nor have others I’ve invited to write here? I can’t speak for them, but for me it’s not because I’ve had nothing to say. Nor has the Lord been silent, but His Spirit has been dealing with me often and much, in quiet times of seeking Him, and as I go speedily along my way.

It’s a new day. There are changes and chapters in an earth life. The Lord is there, faithfully leading and wooing all who would hear, onto the path, a straight and narrow way. A way of peace, and a joyful way.

I have a thought to share about Brent’s home going. It’s come to me a number of times strongly since that time.

One of the most powerful and passionate words of resolve we heard Brent speak during the time of his cancer and suffering, when we all expected the Lord to heal him, was “Lord I yield my life to You.” He meant it. We all knew he did. We were touched by Brent’s sincerity. And by the Spirit of God easily felt in the room that night. It was awesome to be there.

God heard Brent’s confession. He received his yielded life, a few days later.

This has forever been connected for me to some lines in a C.S. Lewis book. Two pilgrims are discussing the nature of (our God) the King. One who doesn’t know the King asks one who does, “Is He safe?” The other replies, “No, He’s not safe; but He’s good.”

... The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." (Job 1:21-22)

"God is exalted in his power. Who is a teacher like him? Who has prescribed his ways for him, or said to him, 'You have done wrong'? Remember to extol his work, which men have praised in song. All mankind has seen it; men gaze on it from afar. How great is God—beyond our understanding! The number of his years is past finding out.(Job 36:22-26)

Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor?(Isaiah 40:13)

Stay in the Battle - The Battle is the Lord's

The Art of Self-deception

“The story of King David’s demise begins with the statement, “And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David…tarried still at Jerusalem.” David, tired of the battle, decided to take some time off. With nothing to do he allowed his mind to roam into forbidden areas. His harem was not enough; he needed another man’s wife.

Having committed adultery and murder, David thought he had gotten away with it. Joab, the head of his army, as well as some of the servants in the palace, probably knew. But who would challenge the will of the king? David committed the perfect crime – except he forgot that God was watching. “The thing that David had done displeased the Lord.” Those few words marked the beginning of the end for David. Although forgiven by God, David never completely recovered from the consequences of his sin. The prophet Nathan warned David that he would be able to connect the coming havoc with the crime. Nothing again would be the same.

Because of his crime, his son by Bathsheba died. His son Amon emulated his sin and raped Tamar. Absalom in turn killed Amon and then revolted against this father, temporarily taking his kingdom from him. And so it went as it got worse and worse.

Nobody is smart enough to out-smart God. As ridiculously obvious as this appears, people live as though they believe they can. They deceive themselves into believing that crime pays. If you do not want to live in regret, never forget the lesson of King David. God will forgive you, but He will not deliver you from the consequences of your sin. Like your words, once spoken they can never be retracted. The damage has been done.”

Thoughts From the Diary Of A Desperate Man

By Walter A. Henrichsen
(Bolding and italics mine.)

Brothers as I meditated this morning in the devotional listed, I was reminded (and want to remind you) that we live in a day of deception, perhaps like none other. Rev. 3:17.

It’s scary to think, “If you’re deceived, you don’t know it!”

To fight deception, stay in the Word. Stay in community with God seekers. Pray, and stay in the “fear of the LORD.”

Also, “Don’t tire of the battle!” You are born into a world at war. Fight to the end. God will give you rest from time to time, and you’ll need it! But don’t give up the battle and take things into your own hands.

He loves you! Great Easter service yesterday! Thanks be to Him! -=db=-

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:8)

Brent Proctor 1963 – 2008

Brent Proctor was a liver of life and a lover of people! He went home to the presence of his Lord, Jesus Christ, a few days ago at the age of 44, leaving behind a lovely wife, two handsome twelve year old twin boys, a loving family, and a very large host of friends. There were hundreds of people at the visitation last night, and I’m sure there will be hundreds at the funeral today.

He was a skilled craftsman, businessman, leader of the family company, and active in the kingdom. He was admired in all the above capacities. But what made Brent so special to so many? It’s a bit mysterious, really. But it is bound up in his simple approach to life and living, how he loved his Lord, and how he loved people.

Two verses of Scripture come quickly to mind. “Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” (Genesis 5:24) And “... what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

Today is a day of mourning, more for us than for Brent, for we will miss him! More of a day to remember and honor a “life well lived.” A day to meditate on his journey and our journeys with his wonderful and mysterious God who rules over all. A day to laugh and cry, remembering Brent’s big smile, big hugs and humorous ways. To comfort his precious family. To enjoy our God’s calming and peaceful Spirit. To be quiet.

“The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.” (Isaiah 57:1)
