"Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."

With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."

(Acts 2:40)

This was a main point in Stan’s message Sunday. His answer to “how” we do this was insightful, simple, and profound. It’s found in the same text (Acts 2:36-47).

According to Dr. Stan, it’s (1) Faith & (2) Genuine Fellowship.

He said, among many other great things, “If ‘together’ isn’t a part of your Christian life style – you’re missing something!” Read the text and note how many times ‘together’ is used. Meditate on it and ask the Spirit to instruct you if there’s something there for you.

“The promise [Forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit] is for you and for your children.” Acts 2:39

Belize 2009

The date is set for the CCF Men's Mission to Belize 2009! January 25 to February 2. Please note that on your calendar; start praying; and start saving. Also get that passport application sent in! The time will be here before you know it. I feel like there will be much to do, much fellowship to be had, and much fun to enjoy with each other on the journey!

Your leaders have started planning!

The photo is of a recreational outing enjoyed with the Kirklands and Russells who just returned from a short term mission to help the Gaithers get settled in, and get the spiritual lay of the land. They were able to fly to an outer island for some swimming and snorkeling in the pristine blue waters of Belize's coast. If you get the chance, ask these folks about their trip.

More later on this, possibly shared at the next men's meeting this Tuesday night. See you there!

Blessings, Dwayne

NO TIRED WORK

I've just been on a weeks vacation and spiritual retreat, three days of which was spent in Morocco. On the last leg home this morning in DFW, I arose early to read this in God Calling, one of my devotional books. It's so apropos. Enjoy!

"REST. It is wrong to force work. Rest until Life, Eternal Life, flowing through your veins and hearts and minds, bids you bestir yourselves, and work, glad work, will follow.
Tired work never tells.

Rest. Remember I am your Physician, Healer of mind and body.

Look to Me for cure, for rest, for Peace."

“Dwell Apart”

“Dwell Apart” August 6th God Calling, A.J. Russell

"Rest more with Me. If I, the Son of God, needed those times of quiet communion with My Father, away, alone, from noise, from activity – then surely you need them too.

Refilling with the Spirit is a need. That dwelling apart, that shutting yourself away in the very secret place of your being – away alone with Me.

From these times you come forth in Power to bless and heal."

This is from a little devotional book given me by my son a couple years ago. That small, humble book has helped me a lot in stilling my soul and hearing from God. It also has been an encouragement for times of quiet and solitude in a noisy culture that seems much of time hectic and out of control.

I have times like that built into my work schedule, when I’m resting in the middle of a trip. But I have to choose to use it so. I realize most of you don’t have that kind of opportunity, but I urge you to “do what it takes” to get alone with God for quiet times of listening, meditation, reading, praying.

The author of “The Spirit of the Disciplines” said he believed “solitude was the most important of the disciplines, and the hinge of all the others.” He also said, “If Jesus practiced this and Paul practiced it, why should we think we needn’t practice it?” This is a powerful insight and true!

Pastor Craig has been quietly leading in this, and more of us are aspiring to it and practicing it. Please join us! Do it for your own good and the pleasure of the King. -=db=-
